Kumano Kodo Hikes

Almost every month we have Kodo walks. The Kumano region is a place of natural beauty with a deep history. Come and learn about the local history of the area, while walking through nature and small villages. It is also a great opportunity to practice the English you learn in the classroom!

大自然の中や小さな集落を歩きながら、この地方の歴史を学びましょう。

Magose Pass (325m)

DATE: June 25th
Meeting at Tim’s place (8:30)
Price: 1,000 yen

One of the most popular hikes on the Iseji route. The well-preserved stone path is the main attraction. For those who have energy, we will go all the way to the top to Tengura (522m), or you can take a break at the pass and wait for us there.

Akagi Goe/Dainichi Goe Loop (Hongu)

DATE: July 30th
Meeting at Tim’s place (8:00)
You can also meet us at the Heritage Center in Hongu at 9:00.
We Catch the 9:20 bus to Hosshinmon-oji.
Price: 1,000 yen

We will take the bus from the Herritage Center (470 yen) to Hosshinmon-oji and hike over Akagi-goe to Yunomine, then over Dainichi-goe back to the Herritage Center.

Tategasaki (between Atashika and Kata)

The hike out to the Tategasaki penninsulla (4.2km round trip) is beautiful anytime of the year. In summer you can enjoy the cool winds coming off the Pacific ocean and the abounding nature. Don’t miss this beginner level hike!
